GES releases funds for perishable food items to SHSs, Technical Schools nationwide

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the release of outstanding funds to procure perishable food items for Senior High and Technical Schools across the country.

In an immediate release signed by Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi on Monday, the Service confirmed that funds are now available to GES for onward distribution to schools.

According to the statement, management has already initiated processes to ensure the efficient disbursement of the funds to all beneficiary schools.

The release comes amid concerns from stakeholders over delays in food supplies that support the government’s Free SHS programme.

GES also stated that monitoring and accountability mechanisms have been put in place to ensure the funds are used “judiciously and solely for their intended purpose”.

This is aimed at preventing misapplication and ensuring students receive the full benefit of the intervention.

“Management of the Service assures all stakeholders of its unwavering dedication to the welfare of students and the continuous improvement of educational outcomes across the country,” the statement added.

The release of funds is expected to ease pressure on school heads who have had to manage feeding challenges while awaiting government disbursements.

Education stakeholders, including heads of schools and parent associations, have repeatedly called for timely releases to maintain the quality of meals served to students.
