Kwadwo Baah Agyemang rallies prayers for detained MP, Ohene Frimpong

The former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians, particularly his former constituents to lift up the incumbent MP, Hon. Ohene Kwame Frimpong, in prayer following his recent detention by international law enforcement.

Speaking on a Kumasi-based FM, the former lawmaker expressed deep sorrow over the developing situation.

He emphasized how disheartening it is for the constituency to have its newly elected representative held in custody abroad, especially while the exact nature of the allegations against him remains unverified.

Complexity:

Hon. Ohene Kwame Frimpong, a prominent businessman, philanthropist, and the Independent MP for Asante Akyem North, was arrested in the Netherlands.

The arrest was executed based on an international warrant requested by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

While official charges have not yet been publicly detailed, preliminary reports suggest the investigation centers on alleged financial irregularities and cross-border transactions.

Because the arrest occurred in Europe at the behest of American authorities, the case involves intricate international legal jurisdictions.

His sudden detention has sent shockwaves through the constituency, where he is widely celebrated for his extensive charitable initiatives and corporate investments.

Grief:

Hon. Baah Agyemang recounted the somber atmosphere clouding the constituency during his recent visit to attend the funeral of a former Assembly Member.

He observed firsthand the profound anxiety gripping local communities.

According to the former MP, the widespread distress prompted several local churches to dedicate their Sunday services to intercessory prayers for Frimpong’s release.

“It was a truly somber spectacle across Asante Akyem North over the weekend,” Hon. Agyemang shared.

He attested, “Ohene Frimpong is deeply revered for his benevolence and philanthropy. It is entirely understandable why numerous churches offered fervent prayers on Sunday, seeking divine intervention for our MP’s release.”

Benevolence:

Reflecting on his personal relationship with the embattled lawmaker, Hon. Agyemang recalled their first meeting in 2015, when Frimpong visited him at Parliament House in Accra.

Despite Agyemang being the sitting MP at the time, Frimpong approached him with immense humility and warmth.

Over the years, Frimpong has maintained this spirit of communal care, pouring significant resources into development and support projects across the district.

“Personally, I know Ohene Kwame Frimpong to be a kind, supportive, inclusive, and genuinely good-hearted individual,” Agyemang stated.

He noted, “It is my prayer that he is cleared and released from custody soon so he can return to fulfill the mandate given to him by the voters, which spans until 2028.”

Diplomacy:

Addressing the media storm surrounding the arrest, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang staunchly dismissed online speculation, asserting that the allegations of fraud and scams are entirely unsubstantiated.

He cautioned the public against premature judgment, noting that the political landscape is notoriously cutthroat and baseless accusations are frequently weaponized against public figures.

Hon. Agyemang concluded with an urgent appeal to state authorities, expressing optimism that high-level diplomatic channels would be deployed to resolve the matter swiftly.

“I am confident that the Government of Ghana, working in tandem with the US Embassy and Dutch authorities, will employ the necessary diplomatic avenues to resolve this impasse,” he stated.

He added, “The people of Asante Akyem North need their MP back home to drive the constituency’s development agenda.”
