CID still probing alleged assassination attempts on Special Prosecutor – Muntaka

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed has disclosed that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is still working on its report into the alleged assassination attempts on Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng and assault of a senior official of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

He said the Ministry of the Interior is yet to receive the findings of the investigation after formally directing the CID to probe the incident.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 24, Muntaka Mubarak said he recently followed up with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on the status of the investigation.

“I wrote to the CID. In fact, last week, I had to ask the IGP where we are with it, and they promised that they are coming up with a report,” he said.

Muntaka said the Ministry initiated the investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assassinations and ensure that the matter is properly addressed based on the findings.

The development follows allegations that a senior official of the OSP was assaulted by police officers.

The allegations came amid separate claims that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng had survived two assassination attempts while carrying out his official duties.

The OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, Samuel Appiah Darko, made the claims during an appearance on the Newsfile programme in Accra on December 6.

Following the allegations, the Ministry of the Interior opened two separate investigations into the reported incidents.

However, Muntaka’s latest update indicates that the police investigation into the alleged assault is still ongoing, with the CID yet to submit its report to the Ministry.

He said the Ministry would proceed with the matter once the findings are received from the police.
