Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has clarified that no final institutional position has been reached on concerns raised by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) regarding the appointment of Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Deans.
The clarification follows a press release issued by the UTAG-KNUST Branch on September 10, 2026, titled “Defending Our Statutory Voice in the Appointment of Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Deans.”
In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, University Relations Office, for the Registrar, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, KNUST Management said the Academic Board, at its meeting on September 9, 2026, received and considered the draft report of the Statutes Committee and made inputs to it.
Management explained that the Academic Board’s report, together with the draft Statutes and recommendations, would subsequently be submitted to the University’s Governing Council for consideration, review and possible approval.
“The process is therefore ongoing, and it would be premature to attribute a final institutional position to the University or to suggest that any determination has been made on the matters raised by UTAG,” the statement said.
KNUST Management further assured UTAG and the wider university community that the review of the Statutes was being undertaken in accordance with the principles of inclusiveness, consultation, transparency and respect for the University’s established governance structures.
It said the views and legitimate concerns of relevant stakeholders remained an important part of the review process and would continue to receive due consideration through the appropriate governance channels.
