Baffour Awuah to report to EOCO today after High Court arrest warrant

Manhyia South Member of Parliament and Vice Chair of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, is expected to report himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) today, Thursday, October 1, 2026, according to sources close to the legislator.

The development follows a High Court warrant issued on Wednesday, September 30, authorising EOCO to arrest the lawmaker after the Office told the court that it had exhausted reasonable means of securing his voluntary attendance.

The court also granted EOCO authority to search for and seize documents considered relevant to its ongoing investigation. The Office told the court that it was concerned documents connected to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed.

The warrant comes a week after EOCO officers attempted to arrest Nana Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23.

EOCO subsequently said the attempted arrest formed part of an ongoing investigation and followed two invitations issued to the MP in February 2026.

The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has disclosed that the investigation concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.

According to Dr Srem-Sai, the suspected offences under investigation include financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering.

Nana Baffour Awuah, however, has disputed aspects of EOCO’s account. He has maintained that the February invitation was issued to him in his capacity as Senior Partner of Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, a law firm that represented SIC Life Savings & Loans.

The MP has said that after he referred the invitation to the Clerk to Parliament, a representative of the firm subsequently engaged EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30 and provided information requested by investigators, including a formal written statement.

EOCO has maintained that its efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance were unsuccessful, leading the Office to seek the court’s authority to arrest him.

The latest development marks a further escalation of the matter, which has attracted attention since the attempted arrest at the High Court last week.
