
Weweso M/A Junior High School in the Oforikrom Municipality has emerged winner of the 2026 Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge after an impressive performance at the grand finale held at Manhyia Palace.
The competition, organised by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, brought together five outstanding finalists selected from 60 Junior High Schools across the Ashanti and Ahafo Regions.

The event was held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Silver Jubilee Hall at Manhyia Palace under the theme, “Promoting English and Twi Reading Among JHS Students.
The initiative seeks to improve reading skills among students, broaden their knowledge and promote the preservation of Ghanaian culture through reading.

It also seeks to encourage young people to appreciate and develop proficiency in both English and Twi.
The five finalists were Samuel Opoku Kyeremeh of Adankwame D/A JHS, representing Barekese; Joycelyn Akosua Manu Duah of Weweso M/A JHS ‘A’, representing Oduom; Stephanie Agyeiwaa Yamfo of Methodist JHS, representing Duayaw-Nkwanta; Magdalene Duodu of Akwabang Manuel International School, representing Twedie; and Randy Boakye Yiadom of Bodomase St. Stephen’s R/C JHS, representing Obuasi.
Speaking at the event, Board Chairman of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, Otumfuo Hiahene Nana Oheneba Professor Boakye Woahene Adjei, emphasised the importance of reading in education and national development.
He revealed that the competition initially covered only Junior High Schools in the Ashanti Region but has now expanded to include the Ahafo Region, with plans to extend the initiative to other regions in the coming years.
The ultimate winner, Joycelyn Akosua Manu Duah, expressed gratitude to the organisers, particularly Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for creating the platform to nurture students’ reading abilities.
She encouraged her fellow students to take their studies seriously and participate in educational programmes that provide opportunities to develop their talents.
