Six inmates escape from Konongo police cells

Six inmates have escaped from police cells at the Konongo Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region, prompting a manhunt, Asaase News has gathered.
A source at the command said the inmates broke out of the cells on Tuesday dawn, while they were praying, although officers had not anticipated that they were planning an escape.
“All six inmates escaped from the police cell, but there is a serious manhunt for them,” the source said.
The source also explained that visitors bringing food to inmates were subjected to thorough inspections and that visiting hours were restricted as part of security measures at the cells.
“They were praying at the cells, not knowing they had a different motive. And so, in the process, they broke open and escaped. But investigations are ongoing,” the source said.
The police had not disclosed the identities of the escapees, the offences for which they were being held or whether any of them had been recaptured at the time of reporting.
The circumstances of the escape remain under investigation.
