Ejisu Assembly Members demand MCE’s removal within one week

Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have given President John Dramani Mahama one week to remove Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante, accusing her of undermining Assembly decisions and mismanaging municipal resources.

They renewed their demand for her removal on Friday, October 16, 2026, citing alleged misconduct and a breakdown in their working relationship with the municipal administration.

Addressing the press conference, their spokesperson, George Kuntu Blankson, who represents the Kwamo Electoral Area, alleged that Ms Asante colluded with the Municipal Head of Works to issue a fraudulent building permit receipt and used her official vehicle to facilitate alleged extortion by the Municipal Engineer.

He also accused her of seeking to transfer the Municipal Finance Officer and failing to address worsening sanitation challenges in the municipality.

The Assembly Members said the alleged actions had undermined decisions taken by the Assembly. They cited disputes over the enforcement of a High Court order to demolish a building encroaching on a road at Achiakrom and the removal of laterite dumped on a wetland along the River Baffoe on the Ejisuman Senior High School road.

They had raised the two issues at a press conference on July 24, 2026, accusing Ms Asante of failing to act and giving her one week to resign or be replaced.

They said no action had been taken more than two months later, prompting them to renew their appeal to the President.

“More than two months after our press conference, no action has been taken. This means that both the MCE and the president do not take the resolution of the assembly members seriously,” Mr Blankson said.

The Assembly Members warned that the continued failure to address their concerns had weakened their authority and further strained their relationship with the municipal administration.
