Gender Minister, GES Director-General to visit Obuasi SHTS ahead of reopening

A high-level delegation led by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) is expected to visit Obuasi as plans advance to reopen Obuasi Senior High Technical School to continuing students.

The visit follows the closure of the school nearly three months ago after violent student protests over allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, who has since been suspended.

The allegations concern 19 female students and were brought to public attention through an investigative documentary by JoyNews journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni titled Inside the Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow.

The revelations sparked widespread public concern about the safety and welfare of students, while the ensuing unrest disrupted teaching and learning at the school.

The planned visit by the delegation comes as authorities prepare to resume academic activities for continuing students following the prolonged closure.
