Ashanti Police foils robbery attack in Bekwai, 3 arrested

The Ashanti Regional Police Command on Thursday march 8, 2018, arrested three suspects in connection with a foiled robbery at Abenkyim near Bekwai in the Amansie East district of the Ashanti region.
The suspects, Samuel Agyekum, 18, Boakye Ansah, 24, leader of the group, and Innocent Amoako, also known as Stonky, 19, had planned to rob a fuel Filling Station at Abenkyim near Bekwai.
Addressing the media at the Ashanti Regional Police Command headquarters in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Ken Yeboah, said the suspects were arrested upon tip off.
During interrogation all the three suspects admitted to have come together to plan and committed above mentioned crime, according to the Regional Commander.
“During interrogation, the suspects mentioned that they boarded a taxicab with registration number AS 4321-13 driven by Kwame Afriyie from Anwiankwanta to the said filling station, where Boakye Ansah, one of the suspects even worked,” he narrated.
“Upon arrival at the filling station, two of the suspects Samuel Agyekum and Boakye Ansah changed into yellow jackets with hoods that had the symbol of that of the filling station printed on it. Whiles Innocent Amoako alias Stonky, changed into a long white dress, with a bag at his bag, which concealed a malfunctioned pistol, “he added.
Continuing, he said the suspects further added that whiles Samuel Agyekum and Boakye Ansah entered the manager’s office at the filling station, Innocent Amoako who had the pistol pretended to have attending to a nature’s call.
“The suspects, who met the absence of the manager, retreated and entered the taxi en route to Anwiankwanta. The police who already had intelligence pursued these suspects from the filling station at Abenkyim through to Anwiankwanta where the road was found blocked by inhabitants. The suspects were subsequently arrested,” COP Ken Yeboah further said.
He said upon a search in the taxicab revealed one pistol, four kitchen knives, a mask and gloves, and all the three suspects are in the Police custody assisting in investigation.
