Akufo-Addo leaves for Togo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, left Ghana on Tuesday, 26th June, 2018, for Lome, Togo, to facilitate, as mandated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the dialogue aimed at resolving the ongoing political crisis in that country.
President Akufo-Addo will return to Ghana on Wednesday, 27th June, 2018, and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead.
Togo has been engulfed in crises over the past few years following numerous protests by opposition parties to force President Faure Gnassingbe out of power for a more democratic electoral process to take place.
President Akufo-Addo has been mediating the peace process in that country.
