The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) wants the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to oust its current leadership after a leaked audio confirmed its use of party militias.
The NPP Communications Director, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, urged the rank and file of the NDC to ensure the “shameful leadership” is removed “so they restore their moral right to partake in the politics of this country.”
In the viral audio recording, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is heard among other things, conceding that a pro-NDC militia group, Azorka Boys were present in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by-election which turned violent.
In that January 31 by-election which has now become a subject of a Presidential Commission of Inquiry, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the party withdrew from the elections because it was outnumbered by a pro-NPP militia group Kandahar Boys dressed as national security operatives.
The NDC leader highlighted plans to fend off NPP militia in the 2020 elections and also mentioned plans to endanger the lives of some Ghanaians.
He also okayed a plan to unleash insults on a religious leader and Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante and also denigrate the chairperson of the Electoral Commission Jean Mensa.
NDC National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has rubbished the recording insisting to Daniel Dadzie on the Super Morning Show Wednesday that the tape is doctored.
In sharp contrast, Sammy Gyamfi’s deputy, Kwaku Boahen confirmed the audio and its contents as truth to Adom FM.
Reacting to the developments at a press conference Wednesday, Communications Director of the NPP, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah described the actions NDC leadership as a threat to Ghana’s stability.
“Those in the NDC who believe in an ideology must rise and demand resignations…all those culpable must account to the NDC first and then to the nation,” Mr. Buabeng said.
This follows the release of the secret recording of a meeting during which the National Chairman of the party Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is heard making explosive comments.
“What has happened is bad and ugly,” he said.
There has been no official reaction from Samuel Ofosu Ampofo or the party.
