Ashanti Region: Police grabs 2 over kidnap attempt

Police of the Ashanti region have arrested 2 persons in attempt to kidnap a 14 year old boy at Ejisu Kwamo in the Ashanti region.
The duo, 38 year old unemployed Charles Appiah and 29 year old private security worker Manasseh Fumeh both live in the same community with the victim whom is believed to come from a wealthy home.
According to reports, the two suspects planned the kidnap with another friend by name Felix Badu currently at large to act as someone who had just arrived from abroad and wanted to be friends with the victim.
Speaking in an interview with Otec fm’s Evans Agyei Sikapa, the Ashanti regional police PRO ASP Godwin Ahianyo explained that Felix Badu after planning the act managed to get the victim’s contact and phoned him with pretence that he wanted to be friends with him since he learnt the victim is much addicted to powerful phones and laptops and promised to give him a new laptop upon their meeting.
He added that on Sunday 24 March 2019, Felix called the victim to meet him at Tech junction for the laptop he had promised which made the victim rush to the said place to meet his new friend.
According to Mr. Ahianyo, the victim upon meeting the “fake good Samaritan” used chlorophyll on him which made him unconscious and finally got him kidnapped and held hostage in an uncompleted building at Ejisu.
He added that after the act, Felix called the grandmother and father who’s abroad to pay a ransom of $ 3,000 or will never have their son back.
He says after several hours, the boy came back to normal and found himself alone in the said building but managed to shout till some folks around came to rescue him whiles Felix had left him locked to buy something from town.
Meanwhile Manasseh Fumeh, one of the suspects reported to police in Ejisu that he had heard Felix and Charles Appiah discussing on how to kidnap the boy after an official complain had been lodged at the Ejisu police station which led to the arrest of Charles which revealed that he (Manasseh Fumeh) was part of the initial plan.
ASP Ahianyo added that process were underway to arrange the two for court.
He however called on people in Kumasi and Ashanti at large especially with parents to be vigilant and on alert whiles dealing with others especially strangers. He stated that police in the region are doing their best and will still ensure massive security is delivered to the people of Ashanti.
