NPP-shirted man tries jumping from parliament’s public gallery

A 35-year-old man, Kojo Mensah, was on Thursday, 13 June 2019 arrested by officers from Parliament’s Protection Unit for attempting to jump from the public gallery down into the chamber.

The man, who was wearing an NPP t-shirt bearing the image of Kwesimintsim MP Joe Mensah, had his attempted jump foiled.

It is not clear if it was a suicide attempt.

Superintendent Freeman Tettey, the Commanding Officer in charge of Parliament’s Protection Unit told Class News’ parliamentary correspondent Ekow Annan that the suspect has been sent to the Ministries Police Station.

“He witnessed proceedings in the chamber and unfortunately he decided to jump down. So, I believe more information will be established by the police as investigations continue,” Supt. Tettey said.
