Gov’t must fast track GFA’S COVID-19 stimulus package-MP

Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Select committee on Sports and Culture, Hon. Kwabena Woyome has urged the government to fast track on the GFA COVID -19 stimulus package.
Critics have questioned the basis for the football association’s request especially considering the half a million dollars the federation will be receiving from FIFA with some football administrators urging the Ghana FA to rather take a portion of the $500,000 and contribute toward the Covid-19 fund.
In an interview with Kumasi based OTEC Fm, Hon. Kwabena Woyome disagrees with the above school of thought, he argues the government to take a second look at the football association since they have been hit harder during the Anas expose and the global pandemic.
“I think if we talk of stimulus packages, it comprises both public and private sectors. In this case, if you draw the analogy, a team has players that must be paid and sustained, and these players have families they must also support at home, ” Hon. Woyome told Kumasi based OTEC Fm.
“It’s not only the COVID-19, but the Anas expose also hit hard at the industry(GFA), a lot of things happened, so something I totally agreed that we help the investors (GFA/Clubs)so that they can continue to run the teams effectively, Hon. added
“What I’m aware of is that a proposal has been presented to the sector minister and then onwards transmission to the finance ministry. We are all waiting for the government to act very fast on this matter” He concluded
