The leader and founder of Liberal Party of Ghana Kofi Akpaloo says it will be extremely difficult for government to win the fight against illegal mining.
The sector is driven largely by poverty and a major source of livelihood for people in mining communities across the country.
Akpaloo says the alternative livelihood for the these illegal Miners is the community mining project; unfortunately has been dominated by politicians depriving the rural folks who are into illegal mining for daily bread.
As part of the party’s preparation ahead of 2024 electioneering year, he has started his tour.
According to him, he was shocked to see the level of devastation to vegetation and the river bodies in the illegal mining areas.
Mr. Akpaloo says he is worried because most of the residents in such areas are living in abject poverty.
‘It saddens my heart to see residents straggling to get 10 cedis for food despite the gloomy pictures in the environment” He bemoan.
He emplore government to strengthen the community mining project and ensure residents are engage to reduce poverty and galamsey menance.
The party is done with branch and constituency elections; Currently electing regional executives to spearhead party activities.
They are done with two regions left 14.
Mr. Akpaloo is of firm believe if they organise themselves very well they will win power come 2024.
‘Ghanaians are fed-up with Npp and NDC is never an option, they need a third force, a party who is ready to listen to the youth, create jobs to better their lives and that is what LPG stands for” he observed.
