No president will fill your pockets with money – Mahama

mahaPresident John Dramani Mahama has said that it is not possible for him or any other president to go round and fill the pockets of citizens with money.

Mr Mahama, who was addressing party supporters in the Ho constituency as part of his Volta regional tour on Wednesday October 19, insisted that citizens should take advantage of the enabling environment which government will pursue if he is given the mandate to govern for another four-year term, to better their economic circumstances.

“No president is going to come to Ghana one day and line all our people up and say, ‘everybody come and get it; here is free money.’ It will never happen. The only way you can put money in your pocket is to work for it. Even the Bible says so. … God told us, ‘Go into the world and work with your hands, go and labour and feed yourself’ – that is what He said. And, so, the only way money can go into citizens’ pockets is when they work for it. And, so, government’s responsibility is to make sure that we give our citizens the skills to work and to make money for themselves,” he added.

President John Mahama charged the residents of Volta Region to ignore the propaganda the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is propagating against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

President Mahama said the NPP is desperate because it knows that the region is the stronghold of the NDC and will ultimately cause their downfall in the November polls.
