Fake winneba university student arrested for rape

Tanoso police in the Ashanti Region have arrested 20 year old Emmanuel Opoku, who faked as a student of University of Education Winneba, Kumasi campus, for raping a 20 year old student.

The suspect had convinced the victim who’s a first year student of the school, that he was also a student of the same institution and was also studying the same course, which led to both of them becoming friends.

The Tanoso Police Commander, Adams Berko explained who spoke to OTEC News’ Derrick Ekuoba Gyasi  said the suspect having had a good relationship with the lady, then invited her to his house to cook for him, claiming he was sick.

The victim, sensing no ill-motive then proceeded to the suspect’s house. Upon arrival Emmanuel Opoku, lured her to another house which belonged to his friend, located in another suburb.

Emmanuel Opoku had earlier called his male friend to inform him that he was coming on a visit to introduce his wife to him, so upon arriving, the friend who was seeing a friend of, told the pair to relax and wait for him.

The suspect taking advantage of his friend’s absence, then suddenly pounced on the student and raped her. Few minutes after his friend was not returning, Emmanuel Opoku again gripped the victim, slapped her and raped her a second time.

Moments later, the suspect’s friend returned home to see the victim half naked, seated on the bed crying. He asked what was the matter, following which the victim narrated her ordeal.

The friend then questioned the suspect which led to a fight between them. He made a complaint against the suspect at the police station following which he was arrested.

The Tanoso Police Commander, noted that the suspect initially resisted arrest, but was eventually overpowered and placed into custody. He was arraigned before court on Thursday, but the case has been adjourned to October 10 for hearing.

He has been charged with assault, rape, resisting arrest and impersonation.
