Most Ghanaian Gospel Musicians Have Marital Issues – Obaapa Christy
Award winning Gospel musician Obaapa Christy has had a fair share of challenges that led to the break of a nine year old marriage with Pastor Love.
As it is often said, “if the fish comes out of the river to tell you that the crocodile has one eye, you should believe it”.
With her experience and relations with colleague musicians, we do not have any reason to doubt her recent utterance that most Gospel musicians in Ghana are facing terrible challenges in their marriages although she admits almost every marriage has its own problems.
In a recent interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay FM, the musician who seems to be enjoying her current marriage revealed a lot of her colleagues were suffering in their marital homes but are unable to voice it out due to where they find themselves in society.
“A lot of Gospel musicians have problems in their marriages …the challenge is that most of us are unable to voice our challenges simply because of where God has placed us.”
Although Obaapa Christy admits some marriages are very beautiful, she believes it’s extra difficult to marry a pastor.
“There’s no marriage without challenges but it’s tough to marry a pastor”, she said.
She also asked Gospel musicians to be careful who they settle with as marriage is not a race.
This came up when Abeiku Santana asked if it was necessary Gospel musicians married pastors who are perceived to understand musicians and their trade better.
Born Christina Twene, Obaapa Christy has nine albums to her credit and looks up to veteran musicians such as Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Tagoe Sisters, Georgia Adjei, Stella Aba Seal, Amy Newman and Nana Yaw Asare for inspiration and motivation.
