Shatta Wale says musical journey is about purpose, not competition

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale says his musical career is driven by a desire to inspire young people and challenge the belief that success is beyond their reach.
In a Facebook post following the ShattaFest 2026 concert at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 17, the artiste said his journey had never been about competing with other musicians but about using his story to give hope to others.

“I didn’t come to compete. I came to awaken a generation,” he wrote.

“My journey has never been about who is ahead of me or who is behind me. My journey is about purpose, sacrifice, faith, and the millions of people who see themselves in my story,” he said.
He added that he wanted his success to demonstrate that people from disadvantaged backgrounds could achieve their ambitions despite the obstacles they faced.

“I came to deliver a message that even a boy from the streets can become a KING without anybody’s permission,” he stated.
The artiste also dismissed the importance of comparisons and criticism, saying his ambition was to fulfil what he believes is his God-given purpose rather than prove himself better than other musicians.
“I AM NOT HERE TO BE BETTER THAN ANYBODY. I AM HERE TO BE EVERYTHING GOD CREATED ME TO BE,” he wrote.
His comments followed the ShattaFest 2026 concert, which attracted thousands of fans and prominent personalities to the Accra Sports Stadium as part of celebrations marking his birthday.
The event featured performances from several Ghanaian artistes, including Medikal, Patapaa, Fancy Gadam, Jupitar, Kwesi Amewuga and Sista Afia.
Patapaa was among the early performers, entertaining the crowd with his hit song One Corner before performing Body Fi Body, his collaboration with Shatta Wale.
Sista Afia later joined Shatta Wale to perform their song Jeje, while Medikal’s appearance provided another highlight as the two artistes performed their collaboration Sika.
The concert, which featured an all-white dress code, brought together members of Shatta Wale’s Shatta Movement fanbase and other music lovers for an evening of live performances and celebration.
Reflecting on his journey, Shatta Wale described his life as a message and his struggles as lessons, presenting his success as evidence of what he believes can be achieved through commitment to one’s purpose.
His remarks reinforce a recurring theme in his public statements: that his influence extends beyond music to inspiring people who feel overlooked or underestimated by society.
