Most streets across Ghana went agog immediately after the Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC), Ghana, Charlotte Osei, declared Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as winner of the 2016 presidential elections. Nana Akufo-Addo, according to Mrs Osei, polled 5, 716, 026 votes in 271 constituencies to emerge winner in his third presidential attempt.
In the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Otecnews reported that pre-declaration jubilations were already underway before the EC “brought them the good news”.
In Nana Akufo-Addo’s home region, Eastern Region, it is reported that residents could not hide their joy at the news that one of their own will lead Ghana at least for the next four years. The Central Business District of Koforidua, Yvonne further said, is choked with jubilant supporters.
