Midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has revealed sacrificing the opportunity to feature for Ghana at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to repay club side Juventus for their confidence in him.
The 28-year-old has not enjoyed a consistent run with the Old Ladies in the past two years due to recurring injuries during which period he similarly has not played international football for his native Ghana.
In an interview with Juventus TV, the Asokwa Deportivo trainee admitted “it was hard give up” returning to the national team but “I wanted to stay and help Juventus”.
Asamoah who is back on his feet and played full throttle for Juventus over the weekend revealed receiving several calls from Black Stars coach Avram Grant and the boss of the Ghana Football Association, Kwasi Nyantakyi.
“The Coach and the President of the Federation called me many times, and I told them how much I’d have liked to go.
“I’ve had a lot of problems over the last two years though and right now I need to train and play as much as possible.
“I’m glad, because I wanted to stay here, work, and help the team.”
