Mahama withdraws request to keep Cantonments residence

Former President John Mahama has withdrawn a request to keep his Cantonments residence as a retirement package following public controversy over his decision.

A letter sighted by otecfmghana has the President’s signature confirming he is no longer interested in keeping the house at the No.3 Prestige Link at Cantonments in Accra.

According to the letter, former president Mahama never requested to purchase the property and humbly withdraws his requests to continue stay at residence, No. 3 prestige link, cantoments and also to use bungalow No. 6, 3rd avenue ridge as his office.

The letter, sources say comes after President Akufo-Addo and Mahama reached a mutual understanding that former president will not be allowed to keep his current residence.

He has lived at the Cantonments residence for eight years. He first occupied the House as Vice-President and continued to live there even after he became President.

A letter from the office of the then president on December 19, 2016  signed by the former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah requested that the incoming administration give John Mahama the “No 3, Prestige Link, Cantonment together with the adjoining facilities as his official retirement home but Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Spokesperson for the NPP transition team revealed that there was no agreement reached.
