Poor performers can’t make money in Ghana – King Ayisoba

Albert Apoozore known in Ghanaian music industry as King Ayisoba has advised his colleague musicians to learn how to perform on stage because that is the only way they can make money in the music industry.
In an interview with Onua FM, the King of Kolongo observed that the era where musicians in Ghana make lots of money when they released good music from the sale of cassette and CDs are gone.
The situation has completely changed, he remarked, if you release good music and you lack good performing skills, there is no way you will make money.
King Ayisoba said since the sale of cassette and CDs has dropped, musicians need to compose good music and also learn to perform well. King Ayisoba comes from Kalaga, in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
He learnt how to play the kologo (a traditional two stringed guitar) from his grandfather, a traditional healer. Ayisoba said anytime he picks the kologo to play, because it is more of a spiritual instrument, the songs just come, noting that he doesn’t sit down with the intention to compose songs.
King became popular in the year 2006 with his song “I want to see you my father”. He won the Ghana Music Award for Song of the Year in 2007 as well as the Traditional Song of the Year.
