Gov’t to combat galamsey with drones – Amewu
Lands and Forestry Minister, John Peter Amewu has disclosed that government will start using drones to augment its efforts to effectively combat illegal mining in the country.
This, according to him, will ensure the protection of the country’s water bodies.
Illegal mining popular called galamsey has destroyed the country’s water bodies, resulting in the drying up of these water bodies.
This has resulted in the pollution of the water the Ghana Water Company Limited treats and supplies to the populace.
Speaking during his visit to the Anglogold Ashanti Mine (AGA) Friday at Obuasi, Mr. Amewu said: “Very soon, we will take one river and do a demonstration along that river body to see how we can take these people out. We will fly drones along them as a monotoriing device with police posted allong them, like the marine police, to monitor it.”
“Mining in the river bodies cannot continue. It is criminal,” he added.
