Akufo-Addo has brought joy to Ghanaians – Sammy Awuku

National Youth organizer of the ruling new patriotic party, Sammy Awuku has stated that the scraping of the towing levy by government is a clear indication that the Npp under Nana Akufo-Addo is a listening government.

According to him, the previous government which had developed deaf ears to the views of the public came up with the towing levy but the Npp government headed by president Akufo-Addo decided to scrap the policy after Ghanaians registered their displeasure at the move.

This, he noted, attests to the fact that Ghanaians under the rule of the Npp have acted as citizens and not spectators as charged by the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his swearing-in ceremony.

”The president did not disappoint, he has brought joy to the hearts of the many Ghanaians who expected a change in the leadership style in this country where views of the public were not respected under the previous government”, he said.

He praised the Akufo-Addo government for showing true faith and being on the side of the Ghanaian people because it would be inappropriate to force such a policy on taxi, trotro drivers and motor riders.

”let us commend, encourage and support the government in every fight which is in the interest of the ordinary Ghanaian”, he told an Accra based radio station.

He courted support for the president in the fight against galamsey, noting that, this is the first time a ruling government has prioritised the fight against illegal mining within the first 6 months of office.

”There are members of the Npp who are also into this illegal mining business but the president took a bold decision to attack the canker in a bid to save our lands and water bodies.”

He called on government to take a critical look at the actions of some members of the task force and other citizens who have taken advantage of the exercise to burn the excavators of illegal miners.

He said that the success of operation vanguard in fighting illegal mining will depend on the encouragement Ghanaians will give to government adding that every Ghanaian has a role to play in the fight against the canker.
