Disabled persons Angry at Common Fund Administrator
The leadership of Ghana Federation of Disability Organization (GFDO) have accused the administrator of Common Fund, Madam Irene Naa Toshie Addo of pocketing members’ share of the fund.
“We have three per cent of the Common Fund reserve for the persons with disability. …We understand that the last quarter of last year has been paid to the various districts but our share of it has not been paid”, president of the Federation revealed.
“And we understand also that this year it has been paid for about three months now but none of our members has received his or her share”, he added.
According to Yaw Ofori Debrah who spoke on Radio Ghana’s Behind the News, their members are left stranded as many dash their hope on the amount they receive from government for their livelihood.
“Our members who are students are no this facility. ….many of them who have gain admission and the continuous students all hinge their hopes on the facility”, the president stated.
“But we understand that our share is being held by the Common Fund administrator for no reason as we speak”, Mr. Yaw Ofori Debrah alleged on the state-owned broadcasting cooperation.
“We want government to intervene so that we avoid situation where people with disability will hit on streets to demonstrate”, he appealed.
According to GFDO leadership, the Ministry of Finance has released money for disbursement but the administrator is holding on the money for reasons best known to her alone.
Attempts by otecfmghana.com to get Madam Irene Naa Toshie for her side of the story proved futile as her phone was off.
