According to him, the effects of flooding in these areas have always been severe with loss of lives and property hence the need to immediately demolish structures in such areas.

Hon. Assibey made the remarks when addressing the 3rd ordinary meeting of 2nd session of the 7th Kumasi Metropolitan Assebly.

The meeting among other things was to brief members on the guidelines for the 2018 composite budget and 2018-2021 medium term development plan (MTDP).

The K.M.A. chief executive noted that slums are becoming rampant in almost every sub-metro in the Kumasi including a swampy portion of land around the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly where some people have started erecting structures.

”This should not be allowed since such areas experience severe flooding during the rainy season and might result in deaths,” he added.

”The new and emerging slums must be demolished immediately, that is a charge that we are informing members in the house and as such informing all the sub metros that, we sit at the center but the core activity is happening at the various sub metros where we have all the key players who can solve the problem by being pragmatic,” he said.
