Elmina Sharks Club Chairman complains of biased officiating at Dormaa

Mr George Owiredu the  Chairman of Elmina Sharks Football Club has said that bad eye sights, biased officiating and strange decisions of some match officials may be the cause of violence at Premier  League centres.

He said Ghana soccer would go places if match officials were open minded and interpret the rules of the game and desist from awarding dubious penalty to the host aimed at helping Aduana Stars to annex their year league.

Mr George Owiredu was commenting on the performance of the match officials of the Premier League match between Aduana Stars and Elmina Sharks at the Agyemang Badu Sports Stadium in Dormaa Ahenkro of which the Aduana Stars won by 2-1 after the the Match Officials awarded very dubious penalty for the home club

The Chairman suggested periodic eye tests for match officials before handle matches to ensure that they interpret the rules of the game efficiently and effectively.

He said it was common for some referees to strangely awarding a goal of which the ball was  no near the goal line, award dubious penalty  which sometimes bring the game into disrepute and create opportunity for fans to vent their anger on the officials.

Mr Owiredu said the performance of certain referees’ demoralise young footballers and dip their talents and therefore urged match officials to be fair and firm to encourage lovers of the sport any time they handle matches.

“As we all know, football is a fair play game but what happened at Dormaa last Sunday clearly shows they wanted to skew the match in favour of Aduana Aduana Stars to win the league. The referee intimidated us from the blast of the whistle and luckily enough we got our first goal. The same attitude continued immediately the start of the second half of the game which resulted their (Aduana) equalizer and their dubious penalty”.

Mr. Owiredu indicated that the performance of the  Accra based Central Referee Urial Glah was clear manifestation that all is not well in the Ghana football adding the owner for Elmina Sharks Dr Paa Kwasi Nduom who is also the title sponsor for the Division One is threatened to abrogate the contact due to scandalous officiating.
