Suspended Asokwa Assemblyman receives bail by Kumasi district court

The suspended Assembly Member for Asokwa New Town Electoral Area in Kumasi municipality Hon. Riches Oscar has been released on bail by the Kumasi District Court 2 with condition of GHc 15, 000 plus four sureties.

The court presided over by Her Worship Madam Christina Eyia after cross examination adjourned the case to January 23, 2018.

Counsel for embattled assembly member, Frank Listowell Deborah Yeboah speaking to the media after the sitting said his client is not guilty to the assault charges preferred against him.

Hon. Riches Oscar, also known as ‘Ghana Beye Yie’, is reportedly to have assaulted the Deputy Coordinator for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Mr. Karim Abdallah Adams on November 22, 2017, after misunderstanding ensued between them during a recent meeting.

The case was reported to the Asokwa Divisional Police by the Deputy Coordinator and the assembly was subsequently arrested.

The Assembly after receiving a report from the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC), resolved to suspend the Asokwa New Town Electoral Area member for one year.

After a heated debate to suspend the assembly member for one or two years , thirty-seven members eventually voted for him to be handed a three months suspension, four voted for a six months suspension, fifty-seven opted for a year’s suspension, while seven members  abstained.
