Two shot dead in Atwima-Foase over district capital
Reports reaching otecfmghana.com indicate that two persons have been killed and ten others injured at Atwima-Foase in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region following a misunderstanding over the siting of a new district capital.
They were allegedly shot to death by personnel from the Buffalo Unit of the Ghana Police Service who were dispatched to the town to help maintain calm after confusion erupted over the movement of equipment belonging to the District Assembly from Atwima-Foase to Trede.
Personnel of the Buffalo unit of the Ghana Police Service arrived at the scene to fire the warning shots also claimed further that the personnel were dispatched to the scene after two reinforcements from the Police failed to bring the situation under control.
Some aggrieved youths of Ofoase, capital of the Atwima Kwanwoma besieged the office of the District Assembly on Wednesday, February 7th, 2018 and also blocked the main road of the town in a protest against the decision to relocate the District capital from Ofoase to Twedie.
Speaking in an interview with OTEC NEWS, Assemblyman for Twedie electoral area Hon Augustine Osei explained that the youth began the riot on Wednesday noon as they had signals that relocation of the capital was near and in quest to fight and maintain the capital status stormed the Assembly which resulted in chaos forcing the police to storm the area and as they tried to calm situations down resulted in a warning shot which killed one of the youths (name withheld) and injured 4 others.
