Accra Hearts of Oak current situation: My hands are clean- Don Bortey

Former Hearts of Oak Supporting Club player, Bernard Don Bortey, has denied allegation of been behind the team’s poor performance in the 2018/19 league season, which have seen the club among the poor teams in the league.

The Phobian club are placed 9th on the 16 team league, having amassed 10 out of possible 24 points after round 8, a situation both the management and supporters believed cannot be taken lightly, in the mist of their current quality players.

Before the start of the season, Don Bortey, on Otec Fm’s Royal Sports launched an attack on the club to pay him his outstanding bonuses and salaries dating back 2004, and made a vow that the club will be relegated if the club refused.

“Hearts will be relegated soon and later collapse if they continue to keep my bonuses and salaries I have toiled for while my mother continues to suffer on the sick bed, he told the host Isaac Osei Akoto.

His utterances have made the management and the supporters to believe that their once prolific and dedicated player is spiritually behind the downfall of the rainbow team.

But speaking on OTEC Fm’s evening sports shows Royal Sports on Thursday April 20, 2018, Bortey revealed that he has ‘nothing’ against Hearts of Oak team but the team lacks “spiritual enhancement and protection” to keep them going.

“I said that because I was very angry but am not God to determine the future of Hearts, I have nothing against the team just that the Hearts of Oak’s spirit is no more, as we used to experience and they need to go for it,” he said.

“The team has quality players but lacks spirit, so they need to work on it improve on their winning ways,” he added.
