Jobless nurses picket MoH, MoF

Members of the Coalition of Unemployed Private Nurses have picketed both the Health and Finance ministries today over their delayed posting.

The Coalition says the action became necessary after a meeting with Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over the matter, hit a snag.

Speaking to Class News, the leadership of the jobless nurses said the government was dragging its feet on the matter despite several positive assurances, thus, their resort to a demonstration to mount more pressure on officialdom.

Class News’ Vida Aseidu, who immersed herself among the picketing nurses, reported that as of mid-day, no official from either the health or finance ministry had addressed the aggrieved nurses.

A month ago, the nurses rejected government’s Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo) job intervention programme meant to give them temporary jobs as efforts were made to create permanent jobs for unemployed graduates.

They said NaBCo was an attempt by government to deny them permanent employment. They fear government will be adamant to push for their financial clearance which will give them the opportunity to become permanent employees of the Ministry of Health, if they agree to be enroled into the Heal Ghana module under NaBCo.

They also fear they will be denied full benefits with regard to their conditions of service under the module.
