The Prisons service has started nationwide recruitment exercise in all the regional capitals.

Against this backdrop the Ashanti regional Prisons service command has ordered all officers who are not authorized to supervise the process to stay away from the recruitment ground in order not influence the process.

This was announced by the Ashanti regional Commander of Prisons service Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP), Duut  Nelson, at the recruitment ground at Armed Forces Senior High School, Bantama in Kumasi.

In an exclusive interview with OTEC FM’s Isaac Nsiah Foster, the Ashanti regional public relations officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP), Richard Mumuni Bukari, confirmed two thousand two hundred and seventy one (2,271) recruits are expected to be screened in Ashanti region during the exercise.

He explained that over the years, allegations of extortion have been leveled against some prison officers for assuring automatic recruitment of prospective recruits.

“Meanwhile the process is fair, free  and very transparent to all manner of persons “. DSP Bukari stated.

He further said one of the ways to prevent such unfortunate occurrences is to prevent all unauthorized officers from coming to the recruitment ground.

He advised other security agencies in Ghana to adopt their method of recruitment, where no officer is allow entry onto the recruitment ground unless he is authorized by the command.

On challenges, the Ashanti regional Prisons service PRO, DSP Bukari, explained government’s efforts at revamping the service had not been enough. “I’m appealing to all and sundry to continue with their usual annual donation to Prisons service, by so doing they will help reduce some of the challenges which Prisons service is going through” he added.

DSP Bukari further appeal to government to come to their aid by providing them with the necessary logistics.
