The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in line with the Local Government concept to facilitate the functions of Presiding Member (PM) and the Assembly Members, has handed over a refurbished office to the assemble members, in a short but impressive ceremony at the premises of KMA on Thursday, July 12, 2018.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, in his speech acknowledged the importance of the office of the PM and said it will enhance the functions of the PM, who hitherto, was operating from a distanced location, making Assembly’s work difficult.
“When I assumed office in 2016, I found out that the PM was operating from an office at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, impeding the work of the assembly.
In the structure of the Local Government concept, the PM office is the third in line after the offices of Coordinating Director and MCE, so it needs to be recognized as such. The PM office now means the KMA is always poised for business in making Kumasi the best in the country,” he said.
He continued that “the assembly members had no permanent room to relax and have meetings, and that was affecting their works and performances. With this new common room for them, they will now have time to deliberate on issues concerning the city and addressing them.
The assembly will have their complaints registered at the desks at the office to be forwarded to the office of the Coordinating Director for amicable solutions.
The Presiding Member of KMA, Hon. Abraham Boadi in his remarks showed his appreciation to Assembly for recognizing the role of his in the Local Government structure, saying it will enhancing his functions for the good of the city.
