KMA projects GHc 68.8 million for Kumasi development for 2019

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly ( KMA ) in the Ashanti Region  has  set GH£ 68.8 as revenue target  as overall project revenue for the year 2019 which is lower than both the original and revised revenue for 2018.

Presenting the Executive Committee report of the Assembly at the third ordinary meeting, the Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, said following the carving out of the five Municipal Assemblies from KMA early this year, it became necessary to revise the Assembly’s 2018 budget which was approved in October 2017.

According to him, out of the original 2018 revenue target of over one hundred and seven million Ghana Cedis (107) over thirty million Ghana Cedis (30) has been collected as at the end of July 2018. The KMA boss mentioned the construction of phase two of the Kejetia and Central markets, completion of Krofrom market, road projects, renovation of Rattray Park, construction of multi-storey car park at Adum, refurbishments of Kumasi City Cancer Centre and the centre for National Cultural Museum as critical projects the Assembly will embark on.

Other areas touched on by the Mayor included environment and sanitation, Education, Trade and industry and security.

Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi further stated the Assembly will need to intensify revenue mobilisation, adding that  there has been a steady progress in the collection of market tolls with the involvement of the Fidelity Bank since September 2018.

He pledged to ensure sustainability of Keep Kumasi Clean and Green programme for public safety and restore Kumasi to its former status as the garden city of West Africa.
