Obuasi East seat: I’II not contest if Obuasi -Anwiankwanta highways is not rehabilitated- MP threatens

Member of Parliament for the Obuasi east constituency in the Ashanti region Hon. Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom has threatened not to contest Obuasi East Parliamentary seat should the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) fails to put back the Obuasi -Anwiankwanta highways into good shape.

Speaking in an interview on OTEC FM’s afternoon political talkshow dubbed ‘DWABEREM’ on Thursday December 6, 2018, Hon. Patrick Boakye admitted that the state of stretch of Highways   is so deplorable and does not befit the status of the second largest city in Ashanti region and a hub of gold which has generated huge amount of income for the state for several years.

Residents of Obuasi and its nearby towns and communities have raised several concerns over the bad state of their roads which has affected their daily activities for almost a decade now.

A pressure group in Obuasi named Concerned Adansi  youth today December 6 held a massive demonstration in protest against the Government for what they describe as neglect on the maintenance of their roads.

Leading member of the youth group Frank Aboagye Dayansa told newsmen that residents of Obuasi and it’s environs have cried out on the deployable road for long hence the time to exhibit their displeasure to the government.

‘’the Obuasi Anwiankwanta road should have been attended to long ago, it is better late than never and the Nana Addo led NPP Government is poised to restore it to good shape’, the MP observed.

He told Otec fm  that, the Sino Hydro deal which has been signed by government has in to some roads to be reconstructed and the Obuasi roads is one of the first batch to be dealt with.

Hon. Patrick Boakye Yiadom however lauded the Adansi youth holding a peaceful demonstration as it was their right but calls for calmness and patience with hope and believe in the Government that their deployable roads would fixed sooner.
