2019 SHS placement ends Friday November 29

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says the placement of qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates into senior high schools and technical institutes officially ends Friday, November 29, 2019.

It, however, reminded heads of schools that students enrolments would officially end on December 5, 2019.

A statement signed by a Deputy Director-General, Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, said only one per cent of the expected total enrolment was yet to be met.

Additionally, the leftover percentage figure, he said could be smaller because some schools did manual enrolment and were yet to upload them onto the system.

The deputy director-general said although more candidates had been placed alright some were still doing shopping for “a better school”, while in other cases, the schools had enrolled them but were yet to upload them onto the system.

A total of 517,331 candidates – made up of 263,602 males and 253,729 females – sat the examination.

The candidates were from a total of 16,871 schools and the examination was administered at 1,880 centres.

A total of 122,706 candidates who qualified to enter the senior high schools, technical and vocational institutions but were not placed, had the chance to do self-placement.

By that system, a candidate who missed out on the placement under the Computerised School Selections Placement System (CSSPS) and was required to go to the self-placement platform on the cssps.gov.gh or cssps.org to select his or her preferred school from a list of schools provided.

A total of 490,000 candidates were expected to be placed, but in actuals, 473,728 candidates qualified to be placed.

The number was reduced to the 473,728 because some of the candidates, even though they scored good grades, had grade nine in either Mathematics or English Language.

The affected candidate are required to go back and rewrite those subjects in order to qualify them to be placed.
