Asante Mampong traditional council introduces Leslie Osei Bonsu to Otumfuo as new Mamponhene

The Kingmakers of Asante Mampong Traditional Council have officially introduced the successor of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Accompanied by the Queen, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, and the Adontenhene of Asante Mampong Traditional Area who doubles as Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II, they presented Leslie Osei Bonsu, a senior software architect and geospatial systems strategist, as the next occupant of the Amaniampong Silver Stool.

The official introduction was done on Thursday December 18, 2025 at the Manhyia Palace..
Introduction and Traditional Rites
It was explained that the nominee had undergone the needed traditional processes and was due for introduction to the Occupant of the Golden Stool.

While introducing him traditional schnapps were presented to the King in accordance with customs.
Enstoolment Charge
Otumfuo charged the kingmakers to find a suitable date to enstool the nominee and take him through traditional and customary education.
“He will swear allegiance to you, and you will also swear allegiance to him.”
His Majesty was quick to add that the enstoolment rites would not automatically give the nominee authority over the traditional area.
“The enstoolment doesn’t give you power to rule until you have sworn allegiance to me.”
Objection Petition
Otumfuo announced receiving an objection petition from Botaasehene and directed that the petitioner be informed of the status of the succession process. “He wrote to tell me he had been sidelined from the enstoolment process. Tell him the case has come before me and has been resolved. Make him know the status of the case.”
Absence of Akwamuhene
After noticing the absence of the Akwamuhene among the delegation, His Majesty was informed he was sick and receiving medical attention abroad.
Otumfuo conveyed a message to him, directing him to make himself available during the swearing of the oath of allegiance of the nominee.
The Asantehene warned that failure to make himself available would mean he had abdicated his position.
Dispute Resolution
The leaders appeared before the King and Asanteman Council on December 15, 2025, over a dispute regarding the next successor.
The issue was resolved by the King, making way for the stalled process to carry on.
