COVID 19: BCI suspends all outreach programs

Breast Care International (BCI), a breast cancer advocate non-governmental organization, has suspended all outreach programs in communities, churches, schools and corporate institutions for four (4) weeks, to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.

This is in line with the directives announced by President Nana Akufo Addo, imposing ban on all public gatherings like conferences, funerals, festivals, political rallies, church services, Islamic worship for 4 weeks starting Monday, March 16, 2020.

In a release signed by the President of BCI, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, dated Thursday, March 19, 2020, and copied to otecfmghana.com, it also urged the public to adhere to the practical measures of washing hands for at least 20 seconds, stay home if not feeling unwell, avoiding handshakes and practicing a social distance of at least 6 feet away from people, announced by the Ghana Health Services (GHS).

“In spite of these measures, we encourage non-communicable disease (NCD) sufferers and older people who are the most vulnerable to the viral infection and developing severe symptoms, particularly, individuals with cancer, to visit our offices in Kumasi and Accra, for free screening,” the statement said.

The release also asked anybody who notices breast abnormalities to seek medical attention immediately because getting checked is critical for long-term health and the facility has placed additional measures to provide safety for all visitors.

“We encourage all health institutions to improve their services to Ghanaians during these unprecedented circumstances. We also encourage our partners, collaborators, and clients to remain calm and follow the directives during this global COVID-19 pandemic. There is a need for all of us to be agile and adaptable; for each of us to take our individual responsibility seriously. Breast Care International will continue to act accordingly to keep our community strong,” the statement concluded.
