COVID-19: Ghanaians should expect an additional 1,000 recoveries in the coming days– Dr Nsiah-Asare

A former Director-General of the Ghana Health Service and Presidential advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare has indicated that more persons are expected to recover from the novel coronavirus infection in the coming days.

His comment comes at a time the country’s recoveries are being scrutinized under sceptical lenses as some believe the ‘overnight’ spike in recoveries require further interrogation.

The country, Saturday, May 16, 2020., recorded some 1,754 recoveries from an initial figure of 670; which caused a huge stir on social media.

But speaking to otecnews on Sunday May 17, 2020, Dr. Nsiah-Asare on said those who complained about the country’s low recovery rate now have something to smile about following the astronomical increase in recoveries.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare reiterated the position by the Ghana Health Service that an infected person is only declared recovered after undergoing a treatment plan and testing negative twice.

He noted with emphasis that some 1,500 patients are waiting to be tested for the second time, after which they can also be declared recovered and projected that over 1,000 more people will recover from the virus.

“The number we have is the cumulative figure, which means all cases we’ve recorded since our first two cases from the 12th of March have been added up till today. And out of that 28 have passed on and the recoveries are also included, many of them have recovered.”
