Kejetia Market fire: Dr Bawumia leads government delegation to commiserate with traders

The Vice president of Ghana Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has revealed that the Kumasi Kejetia Market fire was caused by human error.

According to him, the fire occurred when one of the traders attempted to cook food in one of the shops on a gas cooker.

He disclosed this on Monday March 20,2021 when he visited the facility to get first hand information about the inferno.

“I just spoke to officials of the Ghana National Fire Service GNFS and i am reliably informed that, the fire started when one of the traders decided to cook food on a gas cooker, unfortunately the fire was closed to some inflammable items causing the fire outbreak”

“My visit here is to convey president Akufo-Addo’s message to you and the assurance is that, government will give the needed support to the affected traders to help them bounce back”.

“The President sends his condolences to all the traders who have lost their wares and capital in this unfortunate disaster, and assures you his commitment to get you back in business “. He said.

Dr Mahamadu Bawumia however said the market which was initially closed to public for one week after the fire incident will be opened for trading activities beginning Tuesday.

He called on all stakeholders to remain call and wait for government’s support.
