Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly supports 57 Persons with Disabilities
The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly (AMMA)in the Ashanti Region has supported some 57 persons with disabilities with Gh¢ 171,420
The support according to the assembly came from the three per cent share of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) set aside for the persons living with disabilities in the area.
Speaking at a short ceremony held on Friday February 24 ,2023, the Municipal Chief Executive Mr Kennedy Kwasi Kankam disclosed that, some of the beneficiaries received support in the area of education, health care while others were giving start-up capital, equipments and tools for their businesses.
He noted that, the gesture was aimed to support the PWDs to venture into entrepreneurial skills and boost their businesses, in order to get them off the streets.
“What you are witnessing here today formed part of government’s policy backed by law which set aside three per cent of the DACF to be used for economic empowerment of PWDs”.
“We are presenting equipments and tools today, but that was not the only thing the assembly is doing, we have already presented cash amounts to some who needed tuition fees, medical bills and startup capital”.
The MCE emphasized that, the support was based on request by the beneficiaries were carefully selected through the help of assembly members in various electoral areas and the social welfare unit.
He commended the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his sterling leadership which has seen some PWDs benefitting from it.
The president for Federation of Persons with Disabilities at the area, John Kyeremateng hailed the president and the MCE for supporting them.
“We understand the objectives of the funds is to empower PWDs in the area of education, health and socio-economic activities to ensure that no one is left behind in the development of the community and bring about inclusiveness at all levels, and i can testify the government through the AMMA is doing just that”.
He however urged the public to stop stigmatizing persons living with disabilities in the country and rather support them especially in their business ventures.
