Special Prosecutor invitation of Juaben MCE nominee selective and waste of time –Issaka Amon-Kotei

Local governance expert Mr. Issaka Amon-Kotei has criticized the invitation of the Municipal Chief Executive nominee of Juaben Municipality Alex K. Sarfo-Kantanka by the Special Prosecutor describing it “as selective, waste of time and the scarce state resources”.

Speaking exclusively to OTECFM’S ace journalist Asante-Yeboah Benedict on the development, Mr. Issaka Amon-Kotei has further questioned the timing of the invitation adding it would not be deterrent enough since all the Assemblies in the country have finished the whole confirmation exercise.

The Local Governance expert who portrayed the invitation as a belated stated that the Special Prosecutor would have sounded more serious and credible if the process had began from the very onset the allegations started trickling in from the Assemblies when the confirmation exercise was at its peak.

A video of the embattled Municipal Chief Executive nominee of Juaben Municipality Alex K. Sarfo-Kantanka alleged to have demanded his money after his second confirmation exercise hit the snag last Monday went viral on the various social media platforms. The video has since met instant condemnation from the public as some have described the move by the nominee as “immature”.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor in its letter of invitation to the Nominee described in part, “The office of the Special prosecutor has commenced investigations into allegations of corruption and corruption related offences (especially corruption and intimidation in respect of public elections) in relation to your nomination and confirmation or otherwise as the Municipal Chief of Juabeng Municipality in the Ashanti region,” a notice by the OSP said on Tuesday November 2.

But expressing his view during the interview Mr. Issaka Amon-Kotei insisted that the Office of the Special Prosecutor would probably have a lot to do since the whole confirmation processes across the country was fraught with vivid allegations of financial inducement, a situation he believes should have started it long ago to deter the Assembly Members from profiteering.

He expounded, the whole process of bribery and corruption started long before this invitation and my question what was the Office doing when the whole issues started? Watching a mere video of someone speaking to someone over demand for money I don’t think amount to bribery and corruption. In any case is the Office the people of this country that they did not hear of the allegations right from the onset of the confirmation and this amount to complete selectiveness because the question must be asked why only Juaben? ”

The Special Prosecutor has, thus, invited the president nominee Alex K. Sarfo-Kantanka for questioning on 9 November 2021.
