Ghana plays final world cup qualifier game against Nigeria today

The Black Stars of Ghana will today, Tuesday, 29 March 2022, play the Super Eagles of Nigeria for a spot in the 2022 World Cup to be hosted in Qatar.

The Ghanaian team drew 0-0 with the Nigerians at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi in the first leg playoffs.

The Super Eagles will host the second leg encounter today in Abuja.

Only one of the two powerhouses in African football can qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

Since their first World Cup appearance in 1994, Nigeria have qualified for the last six of seven World Cups, only missing out in the 2006 edition.

Ghana qualified for their first World Cup in 2006 and reached the second round.

In the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa, Ghana became the only African team to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

The team also qualified for their third consecutive World Cup in 2014.

The Black Stars missed the last Mundial in 2018 in Russia and would not want to miss this year’s edition.

The Black Stars are also hoping to compensate the Ghanaian fans for their poor showing in the Africa Cup of Nations where the team were kicked out in the group stages after securing just one point in three games.
