Akpinifia pays courtesy call on German Ambassador
The Paramount Chief of the Akpini Traditional Area, Okpekpewuokpe Dagadu IX, paid a courtesy call on the German Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Daniel Krull at the German Embassy in Accra.
On Wednesday 17th May, 2022, a delegation led by the Paramount Chief of the Akpini Traditional Area, Okpekpewuokpe Dagadu IX, paid a courtesy call on the German Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Daniel Krull at the German Embassy in Accra.
The purpose of the visit was to rekindle the historical relationship that once existed between Kpando and Germany in order to foster mutual socio-economic initiatives. Ties between Germany and Kpando dates back to the 1880s.
Okpekpewuokpe also used the occasion to follow-up on an important letter submitted by his forebear to the embassy in connection with the restitution of Akpini royal regalia in German museums. Notably, on the 12th of October 2015, Togbui Dagadu VIII submitted a request/letter to the former German Ambassador John Rudiger.
As a consequence, Okpekpewuokpe requested for an update on the status of the request for the restitution of the Akpini royal objects.
He noted that as the current occupant of the Akpini stool, the responsibility falls on him to unite the stool properties so as to foster peace and cohesion in the Akpini State based on the oath of office he swore to the Akpini people. In line with this, he implored.
H. E. Krull to assist in the process of restituting/returning all Kpando heritage in Germany back to the Akpini State to ensure restorative justice.
In association with the returned stool properties and restituted Kpando heritage, Akpinifia requested for assistance in the establishment of a befitting Akpini Historical Museum and Cultural Centre in Kpando to feature the returned objects and to serve as the rallying ground for the cultural renaissance of Akpini culture, history and cordial relations with its neighbours, both local and foreign.
Akpinifia Okpekpewuokpe Dagadu IX also used the visit to seek the collaboration of the German government on matters bordering on the development of Kpando. He wooed German investors to come and invest in Kpando in agro-processing, the fishing industry, lake tourism and the enhancement of vocational/technical education as well as sports development in the Akpini area.
H.E. Daniel Krull, on his part assured Akpinifia that he will work on the request. He also accepted the invitation to pay a visit to Kpando to familiarize himself with the area and assured that he will support the development of the Akpini Traditional Area to the best of his ability.
Akpinifia Okpekpewuokpe Dagadu IX was outdoored as the Overlord of the Akpini State on 6th of March, 2022 with the promise to champion peace and development of the Akpini Traditional Area.
