KNUST riot: Police arrest three more suspects

Three more suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent disturbances at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The suspects mainly residents attached to the University Hall [Katanga] were arrested by the police on Monday 19 September while writing their semester exam, sources say.

A pressure group, the Concerned Katangees is up in arms against the management of the school, describing the latest arrest as an academic witch hunt.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (22 September), Nana Agyei Kyerema, a member of the Katanga Alumni Association said the approach being used by the KNUST to address the issue is wrong.

An incident occurs between two halls and you decide to go after members of one hall

And interestingly to arrest students whiles they are writing exams, one will ask what is the objective? What does the university intend to achieve? Is the goal to destroy the lives of these young ones who are brought to the university to train academically?

“Because we have had a situation where police have had to accompany people who were in their custody to come and write their exams, so t now go chase them whiles writing their exams and deny them from writing their exams is baffling,” he said.
