Kumasi Mayor “Sells” Asanteman in Praia, London

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne has appealed to businesses and institutions seeking development partnerships to look to Kumasi for same.

He noted that the climate and economy of the metropolis make it an ideal destination for businesses to thrive.

Speaking in Praia, the capital of Cape Verde Island where he participated in a week long tour and conference, Mr Pyne commended the European Union for sponsoring the Holistic Reinforcement For Sustainable Development (HORESD) project.

The HORESD project is a European Union Commission funded initiative involving three local administrations namely the Mancomunitat de la Ribeira Alta (MANRA) in Spain the Camara City of Praia in Cape Verde and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in Ghana.


Mr Pyne revealed that the 2.5million European project aims at building the capacity of city authorities to improve public policies and services in Kumasi to achieve lasting improvement in social, economic and environmental conditions. 

This, he noted would contribute to the development of the circular economy to help reduce poverty and health risks.

Mr Pyne said one of the means adopted by the HORESD project to bring the aspiration into reality is to organise study tours of the partner cities to understudy best practices in planning and organising for implementation of public policies particularly in the field of environmental sanitation. 

“Today we have converged here yet again after the two earlier study tours in MANRA and Kumasi for another insightful tour of the City of Praia. It is my firm belief that at the end of this working visit the Kumasi delegates will be well equipped to operationalise the other activities yet to be implemented by the HORESD project”, Mr Pyne noted.

Meeting With High Profile Persons:

At Praia, Hon Sam Pyne met with the Mayor, Francisco Carvalho.

The two discussed issues of mutual interests including details of the HORESD project. 

The Kumasi Mayor later had the privilege of meeting the President of  Cape Verde, His Excellency José Maria Neves at the Presidential Villa.

The two discussed investment opportunities as well as national development.

Partnership For Healthy Cities Summit:

Earlier last week, Hon Samuel Pyne attended the Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit in London where Mayors from over 60 cities had converged. 

The Mayors met to discuss ways to make their Cities environmentally friendly, cleaner and to to drive investments into same.

The Summit was sponsored by the United Nations, Bloomberg Philantrophies and many others.

At the sidelines of the summit, Hon Sam Pyne met the mayor of London, Sadiq khan to discuss ways of collaborating to attract investments and development for their mutual benefit.
