Akumadan accident: Police arrest ‘fugitive’ bus driver

The Akomadan District Police Command has arrested the bus driver who fled after his car got involved in a gory accident which claimed 6 lives on the Offinso-Akomadan highway.

The man who has been identified as Akwasi Amoateng, 36, is currently in police custody at Akomadan Police Command in the Ashanti Region assisting investigations.

Speaking to OTEC News Kwame Agyenim Boateng in an exclusive interview on Wednesday November 3, 2021, the Akomadan District Police Command DSP Gyasi Agyeman disclosed that the driver reported to himself to Ahenkro Police post after fleeing from the accident scene.

He noted that the driver was immediately taking to hospital for treatment after he complained of pains right after he was arrested and his statement taking by police.

He added that, preliminary investigations showed that, the driver was on top speed as he approached a police checkpoint in Akumadan, the district capital of the Offinso North District in the Ashanti Region.

“Due to the speed, he could not avoid a head-on collision with a stationary Kia Rhino Truck parked at the Police checkpoint” he said.


He further disclosed that the driver will be arraigned before court on Friday November 5,2021.
