Forget about ’breaking the 8’ if you don’t complete Kejetia-Central market project – Kumasi traders to gov’t

Thousands of traders in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti have called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party NPP to facilitate completion of the second phase of the Kejetia-Central market Redevelopment project or forget about 2024 Presidential polls.

The traders who claimed to have been traumatized by the abandoned project say they will boycott the 2024 general elections to protest the failure on the part of government to complete the project as promised.

Addressing the media in a press conference on Tuesday October 10, 2023, an executive member for the traders, Mr Sarfo Kantanka said it was disheartening for the NPP government to abandon the project at the time residents of Ashanti Region needed the facility the most.

“it’s very disheartening to note that, the second and third phase of the Kejetia project have been shelved for several months”

“Some top officials of NPP told us that, construction had halted due to Christmas holidays, and after 10 months now, not an inch has been added to the project since January 2023”.

“Here we are today, several months down the lane, the purported holiday hasn’t come to an end, and now that the reality caught with them, the message has change from holiday to Covid-19 and Russia-Ukraine War”.

“If indeed the country is experiencing financial problems and as a result infrastructural projects have been halted in the Ashanti Region, why are they still completing projects in other parts of the regions, particularly Greater Accra? “ he quizzed.

Call on Ashanti Region MPs

Mr Sarfo Kantanka questioned the contribution of all 47 members of Parliament to the development of the region.

He noted that, the 47 members of Parliament who are representing the huge masses of the region have failed to live up to expectations.

He revealed that, some of the MPs who are occupying top ministerial positions in the party after numerous promise to help fix part of the Kejetia New Market affected by a deadly fire disaster have failed to deliver on their promises

He bemoaned the inability of the MPs to help solve the numerous problems facing traders at the Kejetia Market in the after the fire disaster, calling on them to save the NPP from losing the 2024 polls by delivering on their promises.
